ONLINE - Elementary Age Introduction to Sign Language

Does your older child want to learn Sign Language?

Are you looking for something fun for your elementary age child to do this summer?

You’re not alone! Join us for an elementary age introduction to Sign language class via zoom.

Signs of Learning is offering an elementary age Sign Language class via Zoom this summer. It may not be quite the same as in person, but students will learn the basics of American Sign Language vocabulary as well as some very basic grammar and Deaf culture.

Topics discussed include: the manual alphabet, colors, animals, emotions, foods, and daily activities. There will be lots of review and time to practice with each other. I will adapt many of the games we usually play to work with zoom. We will meet once a week for six weeks. I will offer a second level for those who would like to continue after this session is over. A link to the handouts will be emailed after the first class. Cost is $85 per family.

Jess Kelly

Owner and Instructor for Signs of Learning

My daughter became interested in learning ASL after watching a series on Netflix about a deaf girl and her family. I searched online for a class for hearing kids and was surprised and thrilled to see that Jess Kelly could offer them! Jess provides fun, informal lessons and my daughter loves going. I’m so impressed at how much she’s learned in such a short time! Thank you Jess!

Jess does an amazing job integrating songs, toys and movement into her classes. She helped me feel confident signing with my baby and to also have the patience for my son to realize his gestures had meaning. Signing cut way down on shrieking and crying when my toddler wanted something because with signing I could respond faster and more accurately. It’s amazing to have a baby tell you whether he wants water or milk... or ask politely for more crackers while at the dining table. I cannot recommend Jess highly enough.
